STUDENTS from a Worcester school were runners up at a recent Magistrates’ mock trial competition.
Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College pupils competed in the competition at Worcester Magistrates’ Court against students from 13 schools from across Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Shropshire on Saturday, March 25.
After finishing as runners up the school will progress to the regional finals – the fourth time Blessed Edward has reached that stage of the competition.
Hannah Clubley also won the Best Court Reporter award and her report will be submitted to the Citizen Foundation as part of a national competition.
Student Amelia Burgess, who acted as a prosecution lawyer during the mock trial, said:
“I have really enjoyed doing the mock trial and preparing for it. It has required me to really use my brain and thinking skills to come up with questions.
“It has helped me to see what it’s like to be a lawyer and helped open that career path to me. It has also helped with my public speaking and confidence.
“I am so proud of all of our team for getting through to regional’s and have really liked working with them. I can’t wait to start looking at the next case.”
