A WORCESTER painter who was a colleague of the famous English artist Lowry has produced four new paintings which are now on display at the Guildhall.

Peter Carey, 85, who exhibited work alongside Lowry in Manchester and London, has his new collection on display until Friday (February 24) which has been inspired by the Mayor of Worcester’s nominated charities.

“I’ve seen victims of accidents being treated by Air Ambulance staff in London and in the West Midlands, and this inspired my recent painting,” Peter said.

Some of Peter’s other paintings feature children and reflect the Mayor’s personal ambition to ensure that in Worcester ‘no community is left behind.’

The paintings, along with other items, will be auctioned off at the Guildhall on Friday (February 24) with all the proceeds going to Midlands Air Ambulance, YHA Breaks for Kids and Action for Children.

Other lots up for auction include a tour of both Houses of Parliament, tickets for Worcester Warriors, Worcestershire County Cricket Club, the Royal Three Counties Show and the Swan Theatre.

A meal at the New Four Seasons Chinese Restaurant and a miniature replica of an original statue by local sculptor Ken Potts are also up for grabs.

Coun Paul Denham, Mayor of Worcester, said: “You can’t beat the excitement of a live auction; there are some fantastic items on offer and these promises to be a really fun evening.

“All the proceeds will go to support three charities which I care passionately about, and which make a huge difference to the lives of local people.”

Tickets cost £10 and include a reception drink, light buffet and entertainment from SassCappella.

Drinks from 7.00pm, with the auction beginning at 8.00pm.

Tickets can be bought online via Eventbrite, by calling the Civic Office on 01905 722001 or by visiting the Tourist Information Centre on Worcester’s High Street.
