A BRAVE and dedicated support worker from Worcester is preparing to take on survival challenge in aid of a brain injury charity.
Paul Davies, a support worker in the Woodwork Project at Headway Worcestershire, will take on the two-day wilderness adventure in the Peak District on Saturday, May 13 and Sunday, May 14, in the hope of raising £3,000 for the charity’s Brain Injury Hub in Worcester.
To survive in the wild, Paul will have to trek, rock scramble, abseil, cliff jump and negotiate through the Peak District’s tunnels and caves.
“I want to raise money for Headway Worcestershire to help fund rehab equipment and trips for the clients,” said Paul.
“The work we do is important, even though not many people seem to come to our support.
“I’m really happy to be part of the Headway Worcestershire team. This isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s my way of giving back.
“The hub is incredibly important to those affected by brain injury.
“It’s an outlet to socialise and improve their wellbeing, whilst continuing their rehabilitation.
“I’ve always been impressed with how the members cope and manage their lives day to day.
“Working with them makes you realise how much we take for granted,” he added.
Julia Protesaru, fund-raiser at Headway Worcestershire, said: “We hope Worcester residents, adventure enthusiasts and university sport groups will take on this challenge. It’s also a great way for businesses to work on their team building.
“However, above all, it’s about having fun and pushing yourself to do things you never thought you’d be do.
“It’s a bit like the struggles our members face every day, where simple things are as hard as climbing a mountain.
“This is the first time we’ve done something like this, so we hope it’s successful so we get the chance to do it again next year.”
