A HOMELESS charity in Worcester has been given more than £1,500 in funding to support vulnerable residents living ‘on the edge of society’.
Maggs Day Centre, on Deansway, recently received a £1,000 donation from The Enterprise Holdings Foundation and £600 from the University of Worcester, as part of its ‘Charity of the Year’ campaign.
Staff and students at the University have held a number of fund-raising activities for the homeless charity this year, including cake sales, a Tour de France cycling challenge and a Hadrian’s Wall Walk – which raised more than £6,000 alone.
Michael Connor, volunteer co-ordinator and development manager at Maggs Day Centre, said: “We’re very grateful to Enterprise and the University. The money will go towards activities and educational opportunities, not just for the homeless, but those on the edges of society.
“One of our aims is to provide more food and shelter, but also to support people in all aspects of their life and get them feeling that life is worth living.”
Ben Smith, strategic account manager at Enterprise Rent-A-Car, said: “We’re delighted to be able to support Maggs Day Centre. We have a long-term relationship with the University and were eager to support their fund-raising efforts.
“Following a successful application to our charity foundation, The Enterprise Holdings Foundation, we were able to donate an extra £1,000.”
