THE FIRST image of Worcester’s new £10.5million swimming pool has been released with just weeks to go until the venue opens its doors.

The finished eight-lane 25-metre main pool can be revealed for first time and will be open for swimmers from across the city and beyond to make a splash from January 7.

Built as part of a £10.5 million refurbishment of Perdiswell Leisure Centre, the pool will be able to host regional competitions.

It has also been designed to be suitable for swimmers of all abilities and has facilities to ensure it is accessible to all.

The new Perdiswell pool hall also boasts an 18×10 metre teaching pool with a movable floor.

Coun Jabba Riaz, Worcester City Council cabinet member for Clean, Green and Leisure Services, said: “Work on the pool is nearly finished and you can now see what a fantastic new leisure facility this is going to be.

“I’m very proud that it’s fully accessible to everyone and I can’t wait to see how excited the first swimmers are when the doors open on January 7.”

The new pool has been taking shape since November 2015 and is the centrepiece of a major extension and refurbishment of Perdiswell Leisure Centre.

The eight-lane main pool measures 25 metres by 17 metres and boasts poolside seating for 284 spectators with a further 116 seats around the poolside for swimmers.

Fully accessible for people of all abilities, it is a major new sports and leisure facility that will put Worcester on the swimming map.

The new pool has been built by Worcestershire-based developer Speller Metcalfe.

It will be operated by Freedom Leisure, which has been awarded a 10-year contract to manage all the Council’s sport and leisure centres.
