City law students impress in mock courtroom

Worcester Editorial 7th Dec, 2016   0

A DUO of University of Worcester law students are through to the second round of a national competition.

Laura Taylor and William Morcom won their first round moot against the University of Salford in the ESU/Essex Court Chambers National Mooting Competition 2016/17, on Monday (December 5).

The prestigious competition requires students to present legal arguments on a given moot scenario and legal grounds of appeal.

Ms Taylor and Mr Morcom had to argue two grounds of appeal on the law of tort, an area of law they have not yet studied, and were assisted in their legal research by fellow students, Samantha Envine and Jordan Oakes.

The moot was judged by Alexander Mellis, a barrister from Birmingham’s No5 Chambers, who praised both students for their performances and was impressed it was the first time they had mooted.
