ELECTRONIC real time information boards are being rolled out across Worcester for bus passengers as part of a major £1.8million project.
More than ten display boards have already been installed across the city and surrounding county, with 26 further boards in the pipeline to be built before the end of the year.
The project, which received the substantial cash investment from the Department for Transport, is part of the Worcester Transport Strategy Major Scheme, and will allow passengers to see exactly when the next bus is due.
Following a successful testing phase across key city routes, the scheme is working towards creating a real time programme, which will include web information, on-street information points and a mobile app.
Coun Marcus Hart, cabinet member for highways, said: “We need a public transport network that is world class to match our whole aspiration for a World Class Worcestershire.
“The County Council is bringing in relatively new technology, including the UK’s first solar powered display. Once this roll-out is complete, we hope to have a strong enough case to continue to improve real time bus information throughout the county.”
