A CONTROLLED explosion of an old WW2 bomb has taken place in Norton.
At 9am this morning (Thursday), Network Rail workers found an unexploded, historic mortar bomb in a field near to Brockhill Lane and the old Norton Barracks in Norton.
British Transport Police confirmed the discovery on Twitter:
We are currently at Norton in #Worcester after unexploded WW2 device discovered. Specialist officers are on scene. Lines remain open.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) attended the area and at around 11.30am a controlled explosion took place.
EOD will be carrying out a controlled explosion of an old unexploded mortar in the Worcester area at 1130hrs this morning

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police, said: “We were called just after 9am this morning (Thursday 17 November) to reports that Network Rail workers had found an object, believed to be an unexploded historic mortar bomb, in a field near to Brockhill Lane and the old Norton Barracks in Norton, Worcestershire.
“The area has been cordoned off and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) is currently in attendance. A controlled explosion of the object has now taken place.”
