A WORCESTER bus operator has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award for their partnership with Foodbanks across the county.
First Worcester has been nominated in the ‘Bus and the Community’ section of the 2016 UK Bus Awards for providing transport to those in need of help from Foodbanks in Worcester, Malvern, Pershore and Droitwich.
The national competition recognises outstanding performance, achievements and ground breaking projects that have been provided by the bus industries elite.
The finalists were selected from more than 250 entries across 20 categories to celebrate the outstanding talent and hard work provided by bus operators and staff over the last 12 months.
Managing Director of First Worcester, Nigel Eggleton, said: “I am extremely proud that we have been shortlisted as a finalist for our work with the Trussell Trust Foodbank.
“Our partnership has been in place for just over six months and has provided a real benefit to local people in need.
“It is very rewarding to see it delivering support to local people who have fallen on hard times.
“Our contribution of providing transport means that Foodbanks can offer additional help to their clients,” he added.
Helen Franks, Corporate Partnerships Manager at The Trussell Trust said: “The bus voucher scheme at Worcester, Malvern, Pershore and Droitwich Foodbanks has made a real, and immediate, impact.
“It is an innovative and very practical project which offers an immediate solution to people who are at crisis point,” he added.
The winners of the UK Bus Awards will be announced at a ceremony in central London on November 23.
