WEST Mercia Police has a new Chief Constable – the first to lead the force having started his career in West Mercia as a police constable 25 years ago.
Anthony Bangham’s appointment to the role was confirmed by the Police and Crime Panel on August 9.
The new chief constable first began his career with the police back in 1991 and worked his way up through the ranks and carried out various roles in West Mercia before becoming the force’s temporary Assistant Chief Constable in 2007.
He then left the force in 2010 to become Assistant Chief Constable of Avon and Somerset Constabulary, but he later returned to West Mercia four years later as Deputy Chief Constable.
Speaking after his appointment was confirmed, Mr Bangham said: “I am delighted to be confirmed as Chief Constable for West Mercia Police and look forward to meeting the public and staff who serve the communities of Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Worcestershire.
“As Chief Constable, I want to lead a strong, confident and compassionate West Mercia; an organisation in which the officers and staff always put the public first, always focus on protecting the most vulnerable and always give the very best service to victims of crime and anti-social behaviour.”
