A WORCESTER police officer has received a final written warning for gross misconduct.
Following a Public Misconduct Hearing that concluded yesterday (Wednesday), West Mercia police officer Detective Sergeant Peter Sherwood was found guilty of gross misconduct after it was alleged he acted inappropriately towards a junior female colleague.
The public hearing comes after an investigation which commenced when it was alleged the officer, who was based at Worcester at the time, had breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour.
Held before a three member panel, the hearing was chaired by Andrea Pitt, an Independent Legally Qualified Chair, with Acting Assistant Chief Constable Stephen Cullen and an independent member Jayne Salt.
Speaking after the hearing, Detective Superintendent Gary Watson, Head of Professional Standards for Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police said: “Peter Sherwood was found to have not acted in line with our Code of Ethics in respect of this matter, and has received a sanction which reflects the seriousness with which the force and wider police service treats this type of behaviour.
“I am grateful that the officers who came forward to report this wrongdoing had the resolve to do so, and the public can be reassured that this reflects the culture and ethics of the police service.”
The outcome of the misconduct hearing is subject to the normal appeals process.
