Councillor welcomes library changes

A LEADING county councillor has welcomed extra opening times for the library at the Fairfield Neighbourhood Learning Centre in Warndon.

Coun Alan Amos welcomed the revised opening times after library users were asked to air their views in a consultation by Worcestershire County Council.

Overwhelmingly, people said they preferred the current closure all day on Thursdays to be replaced by normal opening hours.

As a result, the Carnforth Drive venue will now close at a lunchtime on Saturdays instead of being open all day.

Coun Amos, county councillor for Gorse Hill and Warndon welcomed the move and highlighted the importance of the service to the area.

“As an area of highest need it is essential that libraries become a focal point of learning for both children and people of all ages,” he added.

“Libraries encourage people to be positive about the whole educational process and this particular library, located inside the Fairfield Learning Centre, provides a very comprehensive service for Fairfield Primary school.

“It also offers a wide range of courses for adult learning, involving people across the whole age range.

“It is good to see the County Council concentrating its resources in areas where help is most needed, like Warndon.

“Also, it is so sensible to integrate library staff and adult learning staff to provide this more joined-up service,” he added.
