Worcester Editorial 7th Aug, 2016 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

CREATIVE youngsters are being invited to take part in a series of fun-filled, alternative activities this summer organised by the Worcester Arts Workshop.

From workshops in visual arts, dance, oil painting and gargoyle making, people of all ages can try something new or improve on existing skills.

Joining forces with Dancefest, the workshop will offer three days of creative activities for children and young people under the theme ‘Wonders of the Ocean’ from Monday, August 22 to Wednesday, August 24.

Resident Worcester Arts Workshop tutor, Kay Mullet, will run a visual arts workshop which will explore the different elements of the theme each day through drawing, painting or ceramics for £7 from 11.15am to 12.30pm for ages five to 12 and from 1pm to 2.30pm for age 12 and upwards.

Running from 10am to 11am for ages five to 7, 11.15am to 12.30pm for age 12 and upwards and from 1.30pm to 2.30pm for ages eight to 11, Dancefest will be running interactive dance classes for a variety of ages where participants can explore movement sequences and make up their own dance exploring a different idea each day.

The classes will range from £5 to £6.25 depending on age.

On Thursday, August 25 between 10am and 3pm, resident tutor Andrew Clacher, will be sharing his knowledge and expertise with young people aged 11 to 16 in a one off oil painting workshop.

The £25 workshop will teach people how to paint portraits with oil paints, prepare a stretched canvas and have fun painting a full head and shoulders self-portrait in oils.

On Friday, August 19 and August 26, there will be a Gargoyle and Grotesque workshop running from 10am to 4pm where you can make your own ceramic grotesque.

This one-day practical workshop with artist Chris Russell will introduce the techniques so that you can make your own grotesque, inspired by medieval carvings, including those from Worcester Cathedral.

The workshop will be at Worcester Cathedral main entrance at 10am and tickets cost £55 including all materials, firing and a lunch at Café Bliss.

Lastly the Worcester Arts Workshop open day running on Saturday, August 27 between 10am and 4pm people are invited to see the vibrant arts hub in the heart of Worcester city centre.

There will be youth workshops form Vamos Theatre and CAGED Arts as well as a chance to try out some new courses starting in the Autumn term such as Signing for Health and The Rhythms of life.

The free event will give people the opportunity to sign up for the new term of courses on offer, from Salsa to watercolour painting.
