SIX OF the county’s brightest young sports stars will receive grants to help them pursue their professions at a glitzy Ladies’ Day at Worcester Racecourse.

County charity CG5, which was founded to promote participation in sport, will provide financial backing to the talented youngsters at the race day on Tuesday, August 30.

In partnership with award-winning Worcester jeweller Anja Potze, the charitable event will take the total number of grants given out to youngsters to 17.

Six-year-old golfer Jack Dirkin, who is amongst the six in line for funding, is the UK’s number one in his age group and ranked 32nd in the world.

He was named newcomer of the year in the 2015 Energize Awards.

CG5 takes its name from former Worcester Warriors lock Craig Gillies, who is a trustee at the charity, and his number five jersey.

Steve Edwards, a trustee of CG5, said: “Sport plays an essential role in the development of young people and not just their physical wellbeing, but their life skills too.

“These latest awards are about helping young people to develop their talents to their fullest and unlock their enormous potential.

“CG5 is extremely grateful to Anja for her generous sponsorship and support and to all the people who have worked so hard to make these grants possible.

“Ladies’ Day promises to be a lot of fun, but also a chance to celebrate and showcase the very best of the county’s young sports stars.”

Gates open at 2.30pm for the event which starts at 4pm and costs £70 per person, which includes a glass of Prosecco on arrival, two-course buffet meal and private bar, Tote betting facilities, a talk from a tipster prior to racing and visits to the parade ring.
