Charity staff plan special float for city’s carnival

STAFF at a Worcester charity are going all out for the city’s carnival this summer as they add the finishing touches to their parade float.

Chosen as the carnival’s leading charity, Headway Worcestershire, for people living with brain injury, is working hard to create a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory themed float for the event on August 28.

Volunteers and Headway members have been working for more than two months to create decorative items in their arts and crafts and their woodwork sessions.

As well as the float, the organisation also has a walking group formed of supporters dressed as Oompa Loompas and Wonka Bars.

Julia Protesaru, fundraiser at Headway, said: “The local community has helped us a lot, both through donations to buy materials for construction, as well as through donating their time to come and work on the float and be part of the parade.”

In addition to leading the parade, Headway Worcestershire is celebrating August through a ‘Golden Ticket Raffle’, where people can win tickets to the West Midland Safari Park, Cadbury World, Sandcastle Water Park and many more.

People can purchase tickets between August 1 and August 28 from the two charity shops in Worcester or on the day of the carnival, from Headway’s stall.
