THE FORMER Mayor of Worcester has donated nearly £35,000 to a group of city charities.
Raised during his year in office, Coun Roger Knight handed £34,627 to representatives from his three nominated charities, Acorns Children’s Hospice, Sight Concern Worcestershire and the Daisychain Benevolent Fund.
Each charity received a cheque for £7,983.96 on Tuesday (July 12), in addition to a separate total of £10,765 which has already been donated to them.
Coun Knight said: “As well as being a great honour and privilege to serve as Mayor, I have to say it was most definitely a thoroughly enjoyable adventure.
“The icing on the cake, now the year has passed, is to be able to hand over cheques to the three charities I chose to support.
“Thanks to the generosity of so many people, we were able to raise almost £35,000, all of which will now go to benefit Worcester causes,” he added
The Daisychain Benevolent Fund has stated the money will go towards the purchase of a new High Dependency Unit and other urgently needed equipment for the Riverbank Children’s Ward at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
Acorns Children’s Hospice will use the donation to fund a new Jacuzzi and sensory bath.
