A SUPERMARKET worker who has been dubbed a ‘local legend’ is now teaching his exemplary customer service to his colleagues in his own class.

Roy Pennington, who works at Asda in Worcester, has won many awards for his customer service over his four-and-a-half year career at the store and has decided to host his own customer service class.

Known for his cheery demeanor, the 70-year-old has pulled together a list of his top tips to share with his colleagues.

These include self-discipline, arriving on time for a shift, smiling while you serve, asking the customer if they managed to get everything they needed and to work as a team.

He was also dubbed ‘a ray of sunshine’ by the 2014 – 2015 Mayor of Worcester, Coun Alan Amos who invited him to the 2014 People’s Banquet.

Roy said: “I was absolutely thrilled to get the opportunity to pass on my top tips to my colleagues, it’s great to see I am making a difference to this store and also making it a pleasant shopping experience for customers. I’ve also made lots of new friends who come visit me regularly.”

General Store Manager at Asda Worcester, Rachel Stokes, said: “Our store really strives to deliver the best customer service to our shoppers, we’re so lucky to have Roy in our team who’s such a hit with customers and now he’s sharing his top tips with other colleagues across the store.”
