THE INTERIM Chief Fire Officer of Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service has been appointed to the role permanently.

Nathan Travis took on the position back in April, but after a meeting of the Fire Authority last Thursday (June 16), and following an interview process, he will continue in the role on a permanent basis.

Coun Derek Prodger, who was first appointed to the Fire Authority in 1998 and has served as its Chairman for the past five years, was also re-elected to the post for another year at the meeting. Coun Roger Phillips was re-elected as Deputy Chairman.

Speaking after his appointment, Mr Travis said: “I’m extremely honoured to be joining Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service as Chief Fire Officer/ Chief Executive on a permanent basis.

“The Service has already worked extremely hard over the last five years to ensure it is well-positioned to meet the challenges ahead.

“My intention is to ensure that we continue to successfully prioritise those areas where we need to make progress and lay the further foundations for a sustainable organisation that adds real value to the local communities of Herefordshire and Worcestershire.”

Chairman of the Fire Authority, Coun Derek Prodger, said: “I’d like to congratulate Nathan on his permanent appointment and I have every confidence that he will be a strong leader that will help drive the organisation into the future.”
