Alexei to be big hit for Acorns

A WORCESTERSHIRE CCC cricketer has stumped up support for a children’s charity by signing up as a volunteer.

Batsman Alexei Kervezee will start volunteering at Acorns Children’s Hospice in September after being inspired by a recent visit to the Bath Road hospice.

The 26-year-old, who has been a New Road regular since 2008, hopes to focus his volunteering around hydrotherapy, by assisting Acorns’ physiotherapists in helping children stimulate and manage their symptoms in water.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to travel all over the world with the Holland cricket team and I’ve seen the best and worst of a lot of places, so I’ve always thought I’d like to go into looking after children,” Kervezee said.

“I can’t speak highly enough of the work Acorns does for the children and their families. It’s a great cause and volunteering for them is one of the best decisions I’ve made.

“My fiancée works for a local special school, so by talking to her about what she does has helped give me a nudge towards this line of work and I’m looking forward to developing my skills and expertise,” he added.

Katreena Barnes, volunteer manager at the hospice said: “We’re extremely grateful to Alexei for giving up his time for Acorns and for his enthusiasm and commitment to our work.

“As a charity we simply wouldn’t be able to provide the care we do without the help of our incredible volunteers, so we’re very much looking forward to welcoming Alexei on board in September.”
