MORE than 1,300 Worcester residents applied for one of 130 jobs on offer at Waitrose’s London Road store.

All positions have now been filled and the new recruits have been fitted out with their uniforms ahead of the store’s official opening on Thursday, June 30 at 8am.

The recruitment drive saw Waitrose receive one of the highest ever number of applications for jobs at a new store in the company’s history.

The London Road store will offer meat, fish and cheese counters, a bakery with a seating area and a café.

Alison Newell, resourcing consultant for Waitrose, said: “The response to our recruitment drive in Worcester was phenomenal.

“It’s been very encouraging to see so much interest in the new store and people who are keen to join our business.

“We have been really impressed by the calibre of the applicants which has resulted in a very enthusiastic and talented Worcester team.”

Scott Whittaker, branch manager, said: “With the opening just a few weeks away, it’s exciting to see the branch taking shape and the finishing touches being made to the store’s interior.

“Everyone in our new team is gearing up to welcome our customers and deliver a fantastic new shopping experience.”
