A PUB manager with 21 years of experience has stepped into a new role at a popular Worcester pub.

Andy Duggan, who took on the day to day management of the Oak Apple pub on Spetchley Street in late January, has already made a big impression on the locals.

With the introduction of a quiz night on a Thursday, a disco on a Friday, an artist showcase over the weekend and a new five star rating, Andy’s extensive experience has held him in good stead for the role.

Having worked in Cornwall for the past few years, the 37-year-old is new to the Faithful City, he said: “It is going really well so far. I love the variety of people that come in to the pub and I am loving Worcester.

“We have just gone from strength to strength, we have been getting involved and trying to be part of the community. We have definitely turned the pub around.

“I am absolutely over the moon with what we are doing, we have given the pub stability and focus and are hoping to take it to the next level.”

With focus on bringing together the community, the Oak Apple pub now sponsor local charity Acorns Children’s Hospice and are planning a ‘Give Back Week’ from April 28 to May 2.

“There will be a fire walk, a bungee jump, outdoor bands and a family fun day, with all proceeds going to the charity. It’s going down quite well so far, we are expecting a good turnout,” he added.

Franchisee of the Oak Apple, Darren Brett, a former footballer who owns eight other pubs across the country, is hoping the charity week will help kickstart their goal of raising £15,000 this year.

He said: “Acorns is an absolutely phenomenal charity who do amazing work for people with life-limiting disabilities. All of the locals have embraced the charity work and a lot of people have volunteered to help.

“Over the year, our goal is to raise £15,000. We have lots of plans for extending what we do and embracing the local community.”
