WORCESTER Foodbank has praised the festive goodwill of shoppers who handed over four-and-a-half tonnes of donations during three days of supermarket collections.

Volunteers at Tesco in St Peters and Warndon were overwhelmed by the generosity of customers who donated urgently needed items of food and toiletries, as well as festive goodies that will bring joy to hungry people and families this Christmas.

More than 350 crates of new stock were shipped off to the foodbank warehouse and the charity’s small army of hard-working volunteers also collected over £300 in cash.

Grahame Lucas, Worcester Foodbank Manager, said: “We’d like to say thank you to everyone who supported us – the response was incredible. I’ve heard at least four stories of people donating an entire trolley load of items.

“One shopper came in with £200 and spent every penny on shopping for foodbank. People should not underestimate what a huge blessing their generosity will be to the hundreds of hungry clients we will feed this Christmas.”

Mr Lucas also praised the team of volunteers drawn from across the city who gave up their time to hand out shopping lists to Tesco customers at both stores on December 3, 4 and 5.
