STUDENTS from the University of Worcester have teamed up with the city’s council leader to spruce up St John’s over the festive period.

Eight bags of rubbish were collected by local volunteers last Tuesday (December 8) joined forces to rid the streets of litter and to give the area a good clean up before Christmas.

Residents also moved their cars so the streets and pavements could be swept and to allow unwanted shrubs to be cut back.

Coun Simon Geraghty said: “One of the council’s top priorities is to ensure the City is clean, green and safe.

“This community clean-up is a great example of the City and County Councils working together with the University to tidy up some key areas that are well used by the local community.

“Working with West Mercia Police and local residents, we managed to clear the streets of parked cars, which enabled a really thorough clean to be undertaken.”

First year university student Craig Phillips said: “I have really enjoyed my morning organising this litter pick with local children.

“It really was great fun, and the school has already asked us to help them organise another one in February.”
