Cathedral Square work kicks off

Worcester Editorial 28th Nov, 2015 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

WORK to breathe new life into a tired former city shopping centre has begun in earnest as part of a £20million package of improvements

Salmon Harvester Opportunity Fund (SHOF), Worcester City Council and Worcestershire County Council celebrated a new beginning for the former Cathedral Plaza last Thursday (November 19).

In just under 18 months the existing centre will be transformed into a significantly improved retail and leisure destination, now known as Cathedral Square.

It will include eight new restaurants, a reconfigured Travelodge hotel, additional retail space, gym, coffee shop and new public square. The new scheme is expected to create over 100 jobs, plus a significant number of construction jobs.

SHOF has already signed up several new restaurants including Byron Hamburgers, Cosy Club, Ask and Miller & Carter while existing tenants such as Pizza Express and H&M will continue to trade from the scheme.
