Pub boss facing nights on the tiles

A CARING Worcester landlord is spending a week on the roof tiles to raise cash for charity.

New Inn pub manager Keith Newby will be sleeping on the roof of the pub on Ombersley Road until Saturday (November 28), despite a chronic fear of heights.

The Claines resident has always been active in the community and is well-known for his charity work at the pub.

Now he has been convinced to take on this fundraiser for two charities.

Keith’s challenge is to live on top of the scaffolding which was erected on the front of The New Inn on Monday (November 23). The structure will be his home until 4pm on Saturday.

Sleeping, eating and keeping warm will be among the challenges, as well as braving the changeable weather.

As part of its on-going promotion to get as many donations for charities as possible, the pub is looking for local businesses to purchase a banner to be placed on the scaffolding, the firm can then pick their charity for the money to be donated to.

Banners will then be entered into a draw alongside ‘Nominate and Donate’ for local customers to nominate their favourite charity for £1, with all entrants going to a separate draw.

The final two charities will be chosen when Keith completes his challenge on Saturday and draws the two charities from the ballot boxes. The money raised will then be split between the two selected charities.

“I really am petrified of heights so this will be a massive challenge for me, but nothing I won’t complete,” added Keith.

“So if people want to come and see it for themselves and have a laugh, I just encourage them to donate as the charities are the main reason for all of this.”

City residents who fancy braving the heights and joining Keith for a cuppa can do so in exchange for a small donation to charity.
