Vote for Gheluvelt to scoop top national award

Worcester Editorial 17th Nov, 2015 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

A RALLYING call has been made urging Worcester residents to vote for one of the city’s much loved parks after it was shortlisted for a prestigious title.

Gheluvelt Park, which received a £1.4million makeover in 2010, has been announced as one of the contenders competing for the UK’s Best Park award and is up against 20 other locations for the honour.

More than 800,000 people visited Gheluvelt last year and it features second on travel website Tripadvisor’s list of top Worcester attractions.

Residents have until 5pm on Wednesday, November 25 to vote for the park with the winner being announced at the Lord’s Cricket Ground on Wednesday, December 2.

Coun Andy Roberts, Cabinet member for a Clean, Green and Safe City said: “If you live in Worcester, you are probably well aware of what a fantastic place the Gheluvelt Park is – so this is really an opportunity to gain some national recognition and to encourage more people to visit the city.

“This would be great news for local businesses, so I would urge you to vote for Gheluvelt Park today, and encourage all your friends, neighbours, relations and colleagues to do so too.”
