A MAN has been given an 18 month driving ban after being caught riding a moped with nearly twice the legal limit of alcohol.
Richard McKay, of Brickfields Road, pleaded guilty at Worcester Magistrates Court on Friday (August 7) to driving with 64 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.
Adrian Jones, prosecuting, said: “The circumstances arose before 3am on July 11, officers were on patrol in an unmarked police vehicle when they saw the moped rider looking unsettled.
“They drove inside the petrol station and saw him swerve left to right.
“They spoke to him and he identified himself as Mr McKay, they took his details and he carried out the road side breath test which was positive.”
Defence solicitor Ruth Edwards, said: “As far as this offence goes, he was at a friend’s barbecue in the afternoon, he was drinking lager, he stopped drinking in the early evening then went home in the early hours of the morning.
“He went to the petrol station having not drank for a number of hours, he thought he would be fine. He drank more than he gave himself credit for.”
Chair of the bench, John Taylor, fined McKay £110 and ordered him to pay £85 in court costs, a £20 victim surcharge and a £150 court charge.
