Landmark agreement boosts Warriors

A ‘LANDMARK agreement’ will see the Sixways site transformed as part of a project to create new training pitches for Worcester Warriors.

The Aviva Premiership side have reached an agreement with Worcester Rugby, the group that runs amateur club Worcester Wanderers, over the use of the whole of the site near the junction 6 of the M5.

Warriors chiefs will now embark a project to build an all-weather training pitch and transform part of the land into a second main training pitch for the first-team and academy players.

Worcester Rugby, meanwhile, will construct a new clubhouse, extend the existing changing rooms and install a new drainage system to improve their playing surfaces.

The amateur club will also build two new pitches to be used for mini/junior rugby on their Westons and Cummins pitches.

Chief Executive Jim O’Toole described it as a ‘landmark agreement’ as Warriors look to achieve their long-term ambitions.

“We will now improve our training facilities to ensure they rival those of any club in the country,” he said.

“This will allow us to attract the top players to this club as we continue to build for a successful future in the Aviva Premiership.

“We also look forward to working closely with the amateur club on a range of areas of mutual interest and benefit.”

The agreement is also seen as a major step forward for amateur rugby in the city with the new clubhouse set to offer a significant improvement to Worcester Rugby Club.

Worcester Wanderers chairman Adrian Harling added: “This agreement is a significant statement of intent by both rugby groups in the locality.

“It will offer a very exciting future for both the amateur and professional clubs.”
