A DRUG addict has been ordered to pay £100 after pleading guilty to possession of heroin.

Wesley Atkinson, of Keswick Drive, appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court last Friday (March 13) for possessing diamorphine – a controlled class A drug.

Prosecution solicitor Lesley Ashton told the court police searched Atkinson’s home on November 13 last year with a warrant and found three small clear bags full of brown powder and scales.

The drugs were identified as heroin and had a street value of about £30.

Defence solicitor Christopher Aggery said the 35-year-old had been on and off drugs for a significant amount of time.

He said: “It is not easy when you have a long standing addiction and heroin is a hard wife to divorce as they say.”

Chair of the bench John Chester ordered Atkinson to pay a £40 fine, a victim surcharge of £20 and £40 court costs.

He also ordered the drugs to be destroyed.
