Get out and about in the countryside

PEOPLE are being encouraged to stick to their New Year’s resolutions and get fit by exploring the county’s countryside.

Worcestershire County Council countryside team have set up walks to suit all fitness levels with volunteer guides.

Shorter routes are available to the north, south, east and west of Worcestershire from the Bewdley River and Rail, Eckington Wharf, Hanbury, Pershore Bridges and Stourport Circular Walks.

For the keener walkers they have longer distance trails such as the Severn, Worcestershire and Wychavon Way walks.

Coun Lucy Hodgson, county council cabinet member for localism and communities, said: “We’re really fortunate to have some of the most glorious countryside right on our doorsteps here in Worcestershire. It’s that time of year when we’re still working on resolutions and, hopefully not breaking them.”

She added: “Walking our many trails, which differ in distance so area accessible to a wide range of people of all ages, is a great way of keeping that commitment to getting active. Another benefit is the potential cost-saving on things like gym fees making it a great way to maybe lose pounds whilst also keeping some in pockets.”

The council’s website has a link to audio trails for Dowles Brook, Ribbesford, Upper Arley and Wassell Wood Wyre Forest, which guides walkers through sites.
