Tything blocked sewer work to begin on Thursday

WORK to fix a blocked sewer which overflowed onto a city centre street will begin tomorrow (Thursday).

Workmen from Severn Trent Water will start work to investigate and repair the damaged section on the Upper Tything near to RGS Worcester.

Temporary traffic lights will be put in place from 7am until 7pm with bosses hoping the finish the work by Monday (February 2) at the latest.

Don Elt, Severn Trent Water manager, said: “We had a report of sewer flooding on Upper Tything, this is distressing for our customers so we have to dig down to investigate a section of sewer.

“We believe it may have collapsed or been blocked by a build up of fat or sanitary products.

“If this is left un-treated, it will lead to sewer flooding and so we need to act fast. Once we understand what’s going on down there, we’ll get to work with repairs or clear the blockage.

“We understand that this is a busy section of road so we want to let motorists know to allow a little extra time for their journeys in this area of the city.

“To keep disruption to a minimum we’re manually controlling traffic lights from 7am to 7pm and we’ll be working through the weekend. All being well, we expect to be finished before Monday (2 February) and we’ll do all we can to get work completed quickly.”
