THE HANDLING of a report into a missing person who was later found dead in Worcester is set to be investigated.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is looking into the roles West Mercia Police and Northumbria Police played in the search for Quentin Woolmer whose body was found in the city on December 3 last year.

Mr Woolmer, 52, had been reported missing from his home in the Dinnington area of Newcastle upon Tyne the previous day.

The investigation will be overseen by IPCC Commissioner Carl Gumsley.

He said: “I would like to extend my sincere sympathies to the family of Mr Woolmer and assure them that the actions taken by Northumbria and West Mercia police forces will be examined thoroughly during the course of our investigation.”
