Pedaling up the cash for charity

A FORMER Team GB Paralympian has inspired his Worcester colleagues to peddle up the cash for a national charity.

Aj Ahmed, who captained Great Britain’s blind football team in the 2008 Beijing games, and his Dolphin team will tackle the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 in aid of Blind Veterans UK, which helps visually impaired former service men and women.

Colin Shales and Dave Williams, two of Aj’s other visually impaired colleagues, will ride in tandem with sighted staff as part of the nine-strong team leaving Dolphin’s city headquarters on Sunday (August 10).

Aj said: “We wanted to take on a challenge to raise money for a charity close to our hearts, while at the same time get fit and stretch ourselves.

“Our training rides in the Malvern Hills have been getting longer with final sessions of 70 miles planned in the remaining weekends.

“I’m making sure we all keep motivated and encouraged, with good team morale. Our goal is to complete the 100 miles and raise lots of money for blind veterans.”
