Extra bin collections follow strike action

Worcester Editorial 10th Jul, 2014 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

EXTRA bin collections will take place tomorrow (Friday) to empty wheely bins which have been missed because of strike action.

The strike called by the UNISON and GMB unions has led to around half the household waste bins that would normally be emptied today being missed.

Householders are being asked to leave their bins out if they have not been emptied.

The bins will be collected tomorrow or Monday.

Councillor Simon Geraghty, leader of Worcester City Council, said: “It is unfortunate that this strike action has been taken, but the council is acting swiftly to ensure residents’ bins are emptied as quickly as possible.

“Three extra refuse vehicles will be in action on Friday and our plan is to collect everything by the close of play on Monday.”

This week is a green bin collection week, so only recyclable materials such as paper and plastics are due to be collected.

Missed bins in the following wards will be collected on Friday, July 14:

Claines

Rainbow Hill

Arboretum

St Stephens

Warndon

On Monday July 14, the outstanding missed bins in Claines will be collected.

Trade waste not collected today will all be collected on Friday, while missed garden waste collections will be completed on Monday.

All waste collections will be back to their normal schedules next week, when black bins will be emptied.
