Pumps at the ready for fire station open day

CITY firefighters are set to welcome thousands of people to their annual station open day this weekend.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) will be hosting the event at their Copenhagen Street base on Saturday (May 17) between 10.30am and 4pm.

Several thousand people flocked to the event in 2012 and 2013 and, now in its seventh year, those attending will be treated to static water rescue displays, road traffic collision demonstrations, equipment and squad drills, smoke house demonstrations and community advice.

HWFRS Station Commander Toby Kempton said: “Worcester Fire Station Open Day is a chance for the emergency services to come together to highlight a range of safety issues in the home, on the roads and on the water.

“As in previous years, there will be something for all the family to watch, enjoy and take part in, and at the same time, our firefighters and partner agencies will have the opportunity to show the community the kind of work we are called to respond to on a daily basis.

“It’s certainly an event we look forward to ourselves and we hope that people will come along with their family and friends.”
