HUNDREDS of runners and fund-raisers are set to tackle the area’s rural lanes when they take part in next month’s Worcester half and full marathon.

More than 900 people have already signed up to compete in the event on Sunday, May 4, which is raising money for St Richard’s Hospice, as the charity partner.

Jodi Brandwood, of the hospice, said: “This is great news and we are sure to tip over the 1,000 runners mark very soon. We are delighted so many of the runners, 180 so far, have also chosen to fund-raise for the hospice.”

The races see competitors leave Sixways stadium at 9.30am and travel through Oddingley, Tibberton, Crowle, Himbleton, Spernal Green and Dunhamstead before returning back to Oddingley and finishing at the Worcester Warriors site.

Full marathon runners will take a second loop before the last mile.

Rob Minto, race director for Tempo Events, said: “The race is growing each year and the people of Worcester are really getting behind the event.

“It’s a great race taking in a lovely scenic route. So if anyone has been inspired by the London Marathon then they can take part in one on their own doorstep.”

Entries are open for the event at www.tempoevents.co.uk.
