A TEENAGER has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault which took place in a city centre street.

The incident occurred when a teenage woman left Velvet Lounge Nightclub, in Angel Place, about 1.55am on Friday (April 11) and was walking home through The Butts, Farrier Street and Cherry Tree Walk when she noticed a man following her.

As the woman approached the railway arches at the junction with Infirmary Walk the man grabbed her by the hand, before he put his arms round her and lifted her up, which caused her to fall on the ground.

He climbed on top of her, sexually assaulted her and attempted to kiss her, but stopped and ran off towards Farrier Street as she was struggling and shouting.

Following extensive inquiries, a 19-year-old man was arrested in Worcester yesterday evening. He remains at Worcester Police Station.
