Looking good for the future

THE HOME of Worcestershire’s most famous sauce has received a major face lift.

The City Council’s Cleaner and Greener team gave the Lea & Perrins production plant, on Midland Road, an extensive clean last Friday (March 7) after they were specially commissioned to do so by Heinz.

The work on the factory, which was built in 1897, included clearing and repairing roads, emptying gullies, removing moss, trees and weeds from the car park, and also undertaking gardening and arboriculture work.

Mike Etherington, factory manager, said: “When we commenced our de-clutter operation several months ago, it quickly became apparent that although the site team could manage the internal workload we needed specialist support to help with some of the external activities.

“As a result, we engaged with the Worcester City Council’s Cleaner and Greener Team as they were able to provide a wide range of services that met with our specific requirements.

“It seemed the perfect fit for us to be working together for the mutual benefit of the factory’s on going manufacturing operation and the local community.

“We are all extremely proud of the Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce brand heritage and what it means to the city of Worcester, so hopefully we can continue working together to further develop our partnership with the city council.”
