THE CHIEF constable of West Mercia Police has praised the work of a city hospice after finding out about its ambitious plans to help more ill children.
David Shaw and his wife Julie recently visited Acorns Children’s Hospice on Bath Road to see how it delivers specialist care and support to local life limited children.
Acorns’ chief executive David Strudley and head nurse Debra Clark took the couple on a tour of the multi-sensory room, hydrotherapy swimming pool, adolescent lounge, soft play room and IT room.
The special visit also saw Mr Strudley explain the charity’s current five year strategy for growth as it aims increase the number of children and families using its services by 50 per cent by 2018.
The charity is planning to expand the in-house respite and emergency services as well as develop partnerships with other care providers.
Mr Shaw said: “Juliet and I were honoured to meet some of the team and to be given such an insightful tour around the hospice’s impressive facilities, which clearly benefit the children and families there enormously.
“We were both struck by the growing demand for the care and support offered by Acorns and we are very pleased to be able to support the outstanding work of the team through funding raised by West Mercia Police Brass Band.”
