Man fined after Christmas Day threats

A MAN who threatened police with a stun gun on Christmas Day has been fined by magistrates.

Jason George was ordered to pay almost £150 including court costs and a victim surcharge, after pleading guilty to using threatening words and behaviour to cause alarm or distress to police officers.

Appearing at Worcester Magistrates Court last Friday (January 17) it was heard the 29-year-old reacted angrily to police attending a property in Bromwich Road in the early hours of the morning, following the accidental trigger of a safety alarm.

When officers arrived a woman answered the door and George came storming down the stairs shouting obscenities and abuse before slamming the door in their faces.

It was not until the second time of knocking that George answered the door again to police, claiming he was holding a stun gun.

A taser unit was called but the man was calmed down and eventually let back inside. He then came back out and threatened to assault officers, leading to his arrest.

Gary Harper, defending solicitor, said: “Of all the days not to get arrested Christmas Day is probably it.

“When the incident started an alarm was set off by accident as you heard, the woman previously had an abusive partner and when the police came he accepted he shouldn’t have intervened.

“He understands that his conduct was not correct, he should not have done what he did and got involved, he should of let them do their job and get on with it.”

George was fined £37, ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £20.
