PUPILS in Worcester cracked puzzles and added up sums in a bid to claim a prestigious prize for their school.

The Most Able Mathematicians competition saw six primary school across the city compete at Red Hill Primary School on Wednesday, November 13.

The inter-school event, which was organised by Tracey Lister, of Whittington CE Primary School, saw children solve a range of difficult puzzles.

Stanley Road Primary School won the competition and deputy headteacher Stephen Murphy was delighted with his Year Five pupil’s efforts.

“Some of these children are already attaining beyond the expected level for the end of their school life,” Mr Murphy said.

“It’s very important that they meet other gifted mathematicians to put each other through their paces and learn out of their comfort zone.”
