Cannabis farm uncovered at caravan site for second time in year

THREE people have been arrested after police uncovered a cannabis farm at a caravan site on the outskirts of Worcester.

This morning (Thursday), officers from the Droitwich Safer Neighbourhoods Team, supported by Force Operations, executed warrants at a number of plots at Smite, off Pershore Lane, and found cannabis at the site for the second time this year.

The force uncovered three sites in small transport containers, one had 20 mature plants growing, another had 27 young plants growing and the third was set up with cultivation equipment in place but no plants were found.

Two men in their 20s and 30s and a boy in his teens were arrested and, after being questioned by police, have been bailed pending further investigations.

In January this year, a warrant at the Smite site uncovered 58 plants and a man in his 30s was arrested and later convicted of producing the controlled drug.

PC Paul Cound said: “We received some intelligence in recent weeks that cannabis was again being produced on the site and, following some surveillance activity, we have acted promptly to stop this operation.

“Residents on the site have been amenable and assisted with our investigation, many were shocked that cannabis was being grown on their doorstep again so soon after our previous warrant.

“We will act whenever we receive information that drugs are being produced in our community, so if you are aware of any suspicious activity in your neighbourhood, please let us know.”

Anyone with further information can contact police on the non-emergency number 101, or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
