A TOLLADINE man has been given a hefty fine after smashing a taxi window in the city centre.
Paul Turner, of Maple Avenue, tried to get a taxi home after a night out with a group of people about 11.30pm on Saturday, September 14, but the driver told them there were too many attempting to get in.
Worcester Magistrates Court heard last Friday (October 11) Turner was told to get out and walk before he slammed the car door and punched the nearside window, smashing it.
The 29-year-old, who had been drinking, ran off but was identified by police later that night and arrested.
District Judge Astele said it was clear in his mind what had caused Turner to smash the window.
“You have obviously got a little bit of a temper,” he said.
“You were cautioned for criminal damage in 2010 and have got a bit of violence on your record.
“You have been sent to prison for drink-related offences before. Have you ever thought of going to the doctors and seeing someone, as it’s clear to me that you have a drinking problem.
“If every time you drink you come before the court, I would think that’s a bit of a problem. Do you not think you should do something about it?”
Turner was ordered to pay a fine of £200, court costs of £85, a £20 victim surcharge and also £50 compensation to the taxi driver.
