Trust chiefs reveal relaxation of maternity restrictions

Worcester Editorial 9th Aug, 2020   0

HEALTH chiefs have revealed a relaxation to maternity visits for birth partners attending antenatal and postnatal wards.

From tomorrow (Monday) birth partners will be able to attend the wards with mums-to-be for the first time since the Coronavirus lockdown imposed in March.

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust have also revealed a relaxation on restrictions for birth partners attending early labour, assessment of labour and induction of labour.

One birth partner will be invited to attend triage with a mum-to-be for assessment in labour and remain with them for support during labour, birth and for the first few hours following birth.

One birth partner may attend the antenatal ward to offer support during the induction of labour process from 10am to 6pm

One birth partner may attend the antenatal ward from 4pm to 6pm

One birth partner may attend the postnatal ward for a single two hour session either at 10am to midday or between 4pm and 6pm. The ward staff will guide you to the most appropriate visiting time.

Birth partners will be asked to clean/rub their hands with the alcohol-based gel when they arrive and leave, wear a face covering and put it on before entering the hospital.

Staff will ask questions of birth partners on their general health and have their temperature checked. Visitors will also be asked to leave their contact details to assist Public Health, Trace and Protect colleagues should there be a need to contact.

Birth partners are asked not to bring in food parcels, flowers, helium balloons or similar items and not attend if they have felt unwell in recent days especially with a cough, breathlessness, tiredness, a temperature, vomiting or diarrhoea

Anyone who has been in contact with someone in the previous 14 days who is suspected of having or is confirmed as having COVID-19 must not attend.
