Starling effort makes calendar

Worcester Editorial 25th Mar, 2019   0

GARDEN birds, wildflowers, bumblebees, wild landscapes – local photographers have until Monday, April 8 to enter the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust’s popular calendar competition.

The competition regularly attracts images taken by more than 50 photographers and celebrates the wonder and diversity of the county’s wildlife and wild places.

Twelve winning photographs feature as A4 images in the charity’s calendar for 2020 with one of the 12 being voted as the overall winner by the public.

A further 24 images taken by the runner’s-up feature as smaller insets.

Judges look for striking images that engage the viewer and make them think differently about the wild things that we share our county with.

Last year’s overall winning image was taken by Gillian Smith who lives near Tenbury Wells and was of a brown hare amongst spiders webs and dancing midges.

However Bas Yates from Inkberrow’s stunning picture of starlings pausing on an old boot was chosen to represent October.

The calendar raises funds for the Trust’s conservation work and images are also considered for use across the Trust’s range of greetings and Christmas cards.
