School hits the minibus jackpot

Worcester Editorial 11th Nov, 2019   0

YOUNGSTERS and staff at a Brickfields school are celebrating after scooping the jackpot with the donation of a new minibus from bingo bosses.

Carnforth School was handed the keys to the new Variety Sunshine Coach thanks to support from the Bingo Assocation last week.

The new minibus is the 28th to be donated by the association in the past four years and chief executive Miles Baron was on hand to hand over the keys with Mark Jepp, Peter Reeves from Majestic Bingo in the city and Julie Whitehouse from Buzz Bingo.

School chiefs hope the new vehicle will be used to support children from the most vulnerable families, enabling them to improve their attendance and punctuality.

Educational visits such as a visit to a forest, along with the opportunity to participate in cross-school and sporting events, will also be on the timetable with the new mode of transport.

Head of school Sara Wood said: “This will provide our pupils with greater opportunities to experience new events which would not have been possible due to ever increasing transport costs.

“It will also enable us to take part in sporting fixtures. The school’s first trip aboard our new bus will be to a hockey tournament next week.

“We know this bus will continue to provide very valued resources for many years to come”.

Mr Baron paid tribute to the generosity of customers and staff at Majestic Bingo and Buzz Bingo to make the donation possible.

“We have now raised more than £1.3million for Variety in the past four years – a truly incredible amount,” he said.

“It’s brilliant to see this has such a fantastic, direct impact on improving the lives of thousands of sick and disadvantaged children around the UK.”
