Sanctuary in diversity vow

Worcester Editorial 18th Apr, 2018   0

A WORCESTER housing group has pledged to encourage diversity in the technology sector by signing the PwC Tech She Can Charter.

Signing the charter sees the Sanctuary Group, which employs more than 1,000 staff in the city, join a host of national and international organisations in pledging to work together to generate a lasting increase in the number of women in technology roles.

At present, just 17 per cent of technology workers in the UK are female.

While women make up 33 per cent of Sanctuary’s technology workforce, by joining the charter Sanctuary is further committing to increasing the diversity of its workplace by ensuring inclusive access and supporting attraction, recruitment and retention practices.

Signing the charter forms part of Sanctuary’s wider commitment to supporting women into technology roles.

The group has already signed up to the Tech Talent Charter, pledging to encourage gender diversity in the sector, and will be visiting schools and colleges in the local area to encourage girls and young women to consider technology as a career.

Craig Moule, Sanctuary Group’s Chief Financial Officer, said: “We are committed to equality and diversity in the workplace and to being an inclusive employer where all staff are able to reach their full potential.

“Signing the charter demonstrates that commitment and we welcome the opportunity to work with other organisations and communities to encourage more women into technology.”

The PwC Tech She Can Charter was established to increase the number of females working in technology roles in the UK by inspiring and educating, promoting positive role models and sharing best practice across the organisations involved.
