Rediscovering the art of conversation

Worcester Editorial 20th Feb, 2020   0

A COUNTY housing provider has lent its support to a four-month campaign to bring people together through the power of conversation.

The ‘Talk to me Worcester’ campaign currently has 30 planned events in Worcester between now and May 10 and is being supported by Platform Housing Group, Worcester City Council and Yellow Scarf.

Events include doughnut sampling for ‘Paczki Day’ at St Paul’s Church, litter picks and sports activities. Groups, organisations and individuals can register events online and the number of events is expected to grow considerably.

The purpose of the campaign is to promote friendship and neighbourliness, as well as reduce isolation.

Tom Piotrowski, diversity and inclusion advisor, said: “The idea is very simple: bring people together and encourage them to interact to reduce levels of social isolation, forge links between local residents and new comers, and strengthen cohesion of existing communities.

Basia Ligas, community cohesion officer at Worcester City Council, said: “When organising Talk to me Worcester last year we didn’t realise how successful it was going to be. We are looking forward to meeting local residents, chatting and enjoying delicious doughnuts.”
