Pub to help out on election day

Worcester Editorial 18th Oct, 2019   0

A NEWLY refurbished Worcester pub is set to become a polling station to spare a Perdiswell school closing its doors on election day.

Bosses at the revamped Alma Tavern on Droitwich Road have applied to become a polling station to avoid an unnecessary closure of Perdiswell Primary School.

After concerns from local parents and a meeting with the headteacher, Worcester MP Robin Walker urged city council chiefs to find an alternative polling station.

Following a review which ear-marked the Alma as a possible location, the new owners confirmed they would be willing to become a polling station in the new skittle alley at the pub.

“It was great to visit a pub which has been revived and regenerated to serve its local community and I was impressed both with the warmth of the welcome and the excellent facilities at the Alma,” Mr Walker said.
