City charity shop celebrates toy appeal success

Worcester Editorial 23rd Oct, 2020   0

A CITY charity shop has received hundreds of toys and other gifts after launching an urgent appeal for donations.

The Barnardo’s children’s store in St Martin’s Quarter raises much-needed funds throughout the year but especially in the months before Christmas.

However, the recent lockdown resulted in a dramatic drop in donations which threatened the success of this year’s festive fund-raising campaign.

So the team invited people to clear their cupboards of children’s clothes, toys, puzzles, board games and picture-books.

Since last month’s appeal, the store has received around 150 bags of donations containing a combined total of around 1,500 items.

Barnardo’s store manager Sarah Woodward said: “We’ve been delighted by the response from the local community.

“Families have been bringing us a wide range of pre-loved items including Action Man figures, Matchbox cars, Lego sets, an impressive collection of dolls, and lots of jigsaw puzzles and dinosaurs!

“We’ve been especially pleased by the quality of the donations. Many of the items are as good as new.

“Customers have been so impressed by the stock that they’ve already been buying items for Christmas. They particularly like the vintage and retro section, which never ceases to amaze a new generation.

““We’re sincerely grateful to everyone for their support.”

The Barnardo’s store is open Monday-Saturday from 9.30am to 4pm and on Sundays from 10am-4pm.

Staff and volunteers wear gloves, masks and aprons, and quarantine donations in a safe and secure storage area for 48 hours.
